N2  - This article seeks to analyse urban representation in José Cardoso Pires’s Lisboa – Livro de Bordo (1997), a book dedicated to the author’s home city Lisbon, by focusing on its prevailing nautical and maritime imagery. This imagery as well as its tendency to design Lisbon as a city-ship shall be examined with regard to spatial construction in the Livro de Bordo. Urban sailing as well as the recurrent representations of the Portuguese capital’s spaces as heterotopias will be interpreted as approaches to subvert institutional and homogenic discourses on Lisbon.
