  abstract  = {The encounter with non-human animals has always been a major preoccupation in the (philosophical) quest of understanding the human (condition). Of course, they are not only present in literary texts, but also in other media such as music and art. We consider ourselves aware of their selves, natures and skills as well as their sensory perceptions. Indeed, the ways we interact with non-human animals in everyday life and in the fictional world, how we perceive, think and talk about them as well as how we communicate with them are often related to our own self-perceptions in the social collective and in social-historical discourse. If we take a closer look at literary interspecies relations, we can detect clear shades in language and communication. Based on the approaches of Human-Animal Studies, this article deals with those nuances regarding animal-human encounters in Juan Ram{\´o}n Jim{\´e}nez' Platero y yo (1914/1917) and Thomas Mann's Herr und Hund (1919) in a comparative perspective. In addition to this, a special focus is placed on the effect these elements can have on (inter)acting literary subjects as well as on extra-textual recipients.},

  abstract  = {Menschen und Rabenv{\"o}gel teilen eine lange gemeinsame Kulturgeschichte. Wer hierbei den Anfang gemacht hat, ist schwer zu sagen. Fest steht aber, dass beide Spezies einander in mancherlei Hinsicht verbl{\"u}ffend {\"a}hnlich sind, und dass nicht nur Menschen V{\"o}gel beobachten, sondern auch umgekehrt. {\"U}ber teilnehmende Beobachtung und zahlreiche Interviews mit Menschen, die regelm{\"a}ßig Rabenv{\"o}gel beobachten oder sie im Rahmen der Wildvogelhilfe pflegen, werden die unterschiedlichen Beschaffenheiten von Mensch-Rabenvogel-Beziehungen aufgezeigt. Dabei wird nach spezies{\"u}bergreifenden F{\"u}rsorgepraktiken, Wissensaushandlungen und ethischen Diskursen gleichermaßen gefragt. Wie wichtig sind haptische und emotionale Ber{\"u}hrungen bei der Pflege verletzter Kr{\"a}hen? Wie sind historisch-mythologische Bilder {\"u}ber Raben und Kr{\"a}hen in den Diskurs um Multispezies-Gemeinschaften zwischen Menschen und Rabenv{\"o}geln einzuordnen? Welches Potenzial k{\"o}nnten Mensch-Rabenvogel-Beziehungen f{\"u}r die verhaltensbiologische Forschung haben? Vor dem Hintergrund der Multispecies Studies werden Raben und Kr{\"a}hen als Akteur*innen verstanden, die mit Handlungs- und Wirkmacht (agency) ausgestattet sind. Ebenso wie die menschlichen Individuen sind sie dazu f{\"a}hig, sich in andere Lebewesen, in Dinge und Orte einzuschreiben. Ziel der Studie ist es, Rabenv{\"o}gel neu zu denken und ebenso Menschen in Verbindung mit Rabenv{\"o}geln neu zu denken, um dadurch den Tieren letztlich auf eine neue Art und Weise zu begegnen.},

Zoopoetics and Ecopoetics probes the multiple links between ecocriticism and animal studies, assessing the relations between animals, environments and poetics. While ecocriticism usually relies on a relational approach to explore phenomena related to the environment or ecology more broadly, animal studies tends to examine individual or species-specific aspects. As a consequence, ecocriticism concentrates on ecopoetical, animal studies on zoopoetical elements and modes of representation in literature (and the arts more generally). Bringing key concepts of ecocriticism and animal studies into dialogue, the volume explores new ways of thinking about and reading texts, animals, and environments - not as separate entities but as part of the same collective.},
