The study aimed to identify the patterns of acute and chronic injuries in fencing. In retrospective questionnaire fencers were questioned about acute injuries and chronic health problems related to modern fencing. Additionally, fencers were questioned in a prospective observational study over a period of 18 months. Elite fencers as well as amateurs were part of the study. The study examined the frequency, location, severity, and the causes of incidences and possible interrelations. Acute and chronic injuries in fencing occur frequently. They mostly affect the lower extremities. Sprains and strains are the leading acute injuries, while chronic injuries include mostly tendinopathies and chronic pain. The injury rate and pattern differ between gender and performance level. Since typical injury causes can be identified, there can be valuable preventive measures concluded.}, subject = {Fechten}, language = {de} }
