N2 - Fulminic acid, HCNO, was first synthesized in the year 1800 and has since then been used numerous times to develop new chemical theories and concepts. Nowadays, research on HCNO is mainly motivated due to its detection in interstellar space in the year 2009. In this thesis, we investigated the interaction of fulminic acid with VUV- and soft X-ray radiation, i.e., radiation that is also present in the interstellar medium. In our study using VUV radiation, we were able to record the photoelectron spectrum of HCNO with high resolution and we were able to simulate the Renner-Teller distorted ground state of the cation using simulation of wavepacket dynamics. We also elucidated the mechanism of the dissociative photoionisation up to 15.3 eV binding energy. Using soft X-ray radiation enables us to ionise or excite the 1s electrons of HCNO. The created state can decay via an Auger-Meitner process, which produces an Auger electron. We measured the kinetic energy of these auger electron and were able to analyse the observed signals using quantum chemical calculations. We also investigated how the ion fragments after the Auger-Meitner process. We observed a site-selectivity, where the initial ionisation/excitation site influenced the product distribution. We were able to explain this observation with a simple thermodynamic argument. This thesis provides a comprehensive description of the interaction of HCNO with ionising radiation. The obtained data may be valuable for the description of the behaviour of HCNO in interstellar space. For development of these analytical methods, compound 10 had to be prepared in an adequate amount. Results: Compound 10 was synthesized in six steps starting from 5-methoxyindole-2-carboxylic acid (1). Analytical performance of the proposed spectrofluorimetric methods was statistically validated with respect to linearity, accuracy, precision and specificity. The proposed methods were successfully applied for the assay of MLT in laboratory prepared mixtures containing up to 60 % of compound 10 and in commercial MLT tablets with recoveries not less than 99.00 %. No interference was observed from common pharmaceutical additives and the results were favorably compared with those obtained by a reference method. Conclusions: This work describes simple, sensitive, and reliable second derivative spectrofluorimetric method in addition to two multivariate calibration methods, principal component regression (PCR) and partial least square (PLS), for the determination of MLT in the presence of compound 10. However, the interaction pathways and cellular receptors targeted by carbohydrates and glycoconjugates remain poorly examined and understood. This lack of research stems, at least to a major part, from accessibility problems of large, branched oligosaccharides. Results To test glycan - cell interactions in vitro, a variety of tailored oligosaccharides was synthesized chemo-enzymatically. Glycosyltransferases from the GRAS organisms Bacillus megaterium (SacB) and Aspergillus niger (Suc1) were used in this study. Substrate engineering of these glycosyltransferases generally acting on sucrose leads to the controlled formation of novel tailored di-, tri- and tetrasaccharides. Already industrially used as prebiotics in functional food, the immunogenic potential of novel oligosaccharides was characterized in this study. A differential secretion of CXCL8 and CCL2 was observed upon oligosaccharide co-cultivation with colorectal epithelial Caco-2 cells. Conclusion Pure carbohydrates are able to stimulate a cytokine response in human endothelial cells in vitro. Results of calculations with 6s6p5d basis sets for MH, MH\(^+\) , and MH\(_2\), are compared with all-electron and 2-valence-electron pseudopotential calculations with and , without core-polarization potentials. The lo-valence-electron pseudopotential approach agrees well with all-electron calculations. It circumvents problems for the 2-valence-electron pseudopotentials arising from an incomplete separation of valence and subvalence shells in polar molecular systems due to strongly contracted occupied (n - 1 )-d orbitals. All higherlevel calculations show SrH\(_2\) and BaII\(_2\), to be bent with angles of - 140° and 120°, respectively, while CaH\(_2\) is linear with a flat potential-energy surface for the bending motion. The use of a core-polarization potential together with the 2-valence-electronp seudopotentiala pproach allows an investigation of the relative importance of core-polarization vs direct d-orbital bonding participation as reasons for the bent structures. The calculations strongly suggest that both contribute to the bending in SrH\(_2\) and BaII\(_2\).
