N2  - In a learning experiment 10 Ss as receivers judged looking signals of a sender. Providing feedback about the real direction of gaze produced learning in the direction of an improvement of discrimination performance; the improvement was independent of visual acuity of receivers and was not. correlated to extraversion and neuroticism. Performance at the beginning was poorer and learning progress better for fixation points which were further away from the face. Results are discussed with reference to improving accuracy of observers on the variable 'looking behavior', important in studies on nonverbal communication. A pretraining of observers which allows explicit feedback about the real direction of gaze is proposed.
N2  - In einem Lemexperiment beurteilten 10 Vpn als Empfiinger die Blicksignale einer Person, die als Sender fungierte. Die Diskriminierungsleistung der Empfanger verbesserte sich als Folge von feedback-Informationen. Die verbesserte Leistung war unabhangig von der Sehscharfe und korrelierte nicht mit Extraversion und Neurotizismus. Fur Zielpunkte des Blicks, die weiter vom Gesicht entfemt waren, war die Leistung am Anfang schlechter und die Leistungsverbesserung ausgepragter. Die Ergebnisse werden im Hinblick auf eine gro6ere Genauigkeit bei der Beobachtung der Variablen 'Blick-Verhalten' diskutiert, was fUr Untersuchungen liber non-verbales Verhalten wichtig ist. FUr Beobachter werden Trainings-Programme vorgeschlagen, bei denen RUckmeldungen liber die tatsachliche Blickrichtung des Senders vermittelt werden konnen. Resume Au cours d'une experience sur l'apprentissage, 10 sujets se comportant comme des recepteurs ont juge les signaux du regard d'un envoyeur. En fournissant de la retroaction quant a la vraie direction du regard on a obtenu un apprentissage dans le sens d'une amelioration de la performance discriminatoire: l'amelioration etait independante de l'acuite visuelle des recepteurs et n'6tait pas correlative a l'extraversion ou au caractere nevrose des sujets. Au debut la performance etait plus mediocre et le progres dans l'apprentissage meilleur dans le cas des points de fixation qui etaient les plus eloignes du visage. On discute des resultats en vue d'ameliorer la precision des observateurs sur la variable 'comportement du regard' important dans les etudes sur la communication nonverbale. On propose un entralnement prealable des observateurs, entrainement qui permet une retroaction explicite quant a la vraie direction du regard.

Rec~nt developments in the data processing and video technologies have enabled the desIgn of automatic systems for the handling of video software. The system for the protocoIling and retrieval of audiovisual data (PRA VDA) described here has been developed for applications in behavioural observation and analysis. The facilities available, including time coding, search routines and automatic editing are explained and the advantages of computer aided operation are dealt with. Current applications of the system are briefly discussed.

Neuere Entwicklungen der Datenverarbeitungs- und Video-Techno- 10gie ermoglichten den Aufbau automatischer Systeme fur die Bearbeitung von VideoSoftware. Das hier beschriebene System zum ProtokoIlieren und Riickholen AudioVisuellcr Daten (PRA VDA) wurde fUr den Einsatz in der Verhaltensbeobachtung und Verhaltensanalyse entwickelt. Die Moglichkeiten des Systems, u. a. Zeitcodierung, Such-Routinen und automatische Editierung werden erkHirt und die Vorteile corn puterunterstutzter Operationen aufgezeigt. Augenb lickliche Anwendungsbereiche des Systems werden kurz diskutiert. französisch: Un systeme de fixation et de notation video pour ranalyse du comportement. Des mises au point recentes dans le domaine dn traitement de Pinformation et des technologies video ont permis de concevoir des systemes automatiques pour le traitement des materiaux enregistres en video. Le systeme de fixation et de notation des informations audio-visueIles (PRA VDA) deedt ici a ete mis au point pour etre employe dans l'observation et l'analyse du comportement. Les avantagcs tels que le codage du temps, les recherches de routine et la mise en page automatique sont expliques, les possibilites de J'apport de l'ordinateur dans certaines operations presentees. N2  - Die Wirksamkeit des Modellernens im Klassenzimmer zur Veränderung der Prüfungsangst wurde bei 152 Knaben und 164 Mädchen der Klassen 5-8 einer Hauptschule untersucht. Den Schülern wurden die Angst-Skalen (TASe und GASC) von Sarason vorgelegt. Anhand der Fragebogenergebnisse wurden die Kinder den Kategorien "hochängstlich" (HA), "mittelängstlich" (MA) und "niedrigängstlich" (NA) zugeordnet. Für 3,5 Monate wurden die folgenden Paarbildungen (Banknachbarn) beibehalten: HA neben HA, MA und NA, NA neben NA und MA, sowie MA neben MA. Signifikante Verringerungen der Prüfungsangst ergaben sich bei hochängstlichen Schülern, die neben niedrig- bzw. mittelängstlichen Schülern saßen. Modellernen scheint ein praktikabler Weg zu sein, in der Schulsituation gezielt Prüfungsangst zu verringern.
N2  - The effect of modeling to reduce test anxiety in the classroom was investigated. 152 boys and 164 girls from grades 5 to 8 were tested with two anxiety questionaires (TASe and GASe from Sarason). According to the results, children were classified in three groups: "high anxiety" (HA), "medium anxiety" (MA) and "low anxiety" (LA). The children were paired according to their anxiety in the following classroom seating dyads: HA to HA, MA and LA, respectively LA to LA and MA, and MA to MA. The tests were repeated after aperiod of 3,5 months. It could be shown that "high anxiety" children, who had beel'l allocated "medium anxiety" or "low anxiety" partners, reduced their "anxiety". It appears that modeling is a suitable technique for the teacher to re du ce to some extent test anxiety in the classroom.

N2  - A substantial literature exists on the coordination of speaking and looking behaviour and their significance as indicators for the production and reception of social information. Within this framework, the temporal organisation of such behaviour has been 'shown to reflect both the coordination within the individual and between participants in a situation. In this paper, it is proposed that observed behavioural sequences may be formally described by rules of syntax, thus implying the likelihood of structural organisation as opposed to, for example, linear time dependence between behavioural states. This being the case, differing sets of rules and grammars respectively can be expected for various social situations. Clinical interviews and discu~sions between couples on a topic of marital conflict were analysed, the on-off patterns of speech and gaze being taken as data. The resulting behavioural repertoire was regarded, in the sense of a formal grammar, as the terminal vocabulary. A set of rewriting rules was determined and their associated probabilities inferred. The situational conditions were found to be reflectedin the syntactic features of the grammatical model - the terminal vocabulary, the production rules and the production probabilities.

N2  - Validität und Reliabilität der Sprechkodierung einer Beobachtergruppe wurden in Abhängigkeit von der zeitlichen Auflösung untersucht. Die Validität wurde anhand der Übereinstimmung der Beobachter mit einem automatischen Sprachdetektor berechnet. Die Reliabilitätswerte für die Kodierung von Sprechen und Blikken ergaben sich aus der Übereinstimmung der Beobachter untereinander. Im wesentlichen zeigten sich folgende Ergebnisse: 1. Die Validität/Reliabilität der Sprechkodierung ist eine monotone, nichtlineare Funktion der gewählten Auflösung. Die systematischen Fehler, die auf Latenz und Trägheit der menschlichen Beobachter zurückgehen, werden bei einer Auflösung von 400 msec nahezu vollständig unterdrückt. 2. Weder bei der Erfassung des Sprech- noch des Blickverhaltens lassen sich Anzeichen für Observer-Drift feststellen. Trainierte und untrainierte Beobachter unterscheiden sich nicht signifikant. 3. Die Kodierung des Sprechverhaltens ist geringfügig reliabler als die des Blickverhaltens. Dieser Unterschied kann in der Praxis vernachlässigt werden.

N2  - Internal characteristics such as depressed mood, anxiety and general negative emotions are accompanied, particularly during depressive illness, by changes in observable behaviour. Accordingly, the following questions may be examined: are intra-individual changes in speech and gaze behaviour related to changes in the internal psychopathological state? Further, do these changes occur synchronously to changes in the state of subjective well-being? A longitudinal study was made on depressed patients. Their behaviour was observed during standardised interviews and diagnostic-therapeutic discussions held at regu~ lar intervals. Various speech and gaze parameters were examined with respect to their coordination and their relationship to the subjective state of well-being. Considerable variation was found in the temporal relationship amongst these variables. The results are discussed with respect to the relevance of speech parameters and the coordination of verbal and nonverbal behaviour as indicators of the psychopathological condition.
