N2 - The aim of the study was to evaluate the influence of the socio demographic factors on the breast self-examination. In a period between June – December 2001 1.500 questionnaire had been distributed in the waiting rooms of gynaecologist practices. 1.420 female patients completed and returned the questionnaires. The survey showed the following results: 86.5% of the female patients execute the breast self examination in variable frequency. 44% of the women exanimate their breasts in the recommended monthly or bi-monthly frequency. A past mammography, a hormonal substitution against discomforts during climacterics, the menopause and a breast cancer disease were associated with a higher frequency of the breast self examination. A positive family case history and age had no significant influence on the frequency of the self examination. Female patients who had been informed by their gynaecologist about the importance of the self examination, executed the breast self examination in a significantly higher frequency. In a factor analysis the factors “excuses”, “active participation” and “influence by others” correlated with the breast self examination. As a summary the study proved a high compliance with the breast self examination and a high motivation for early diagnosis within the examined group of female patients. The present study examined whether children learn new gender stereotypes from stories when unknown words are linked to a gendered protagonist or context information. In Experiment 1, 40 3‐ to 6‐year‐old preschoolers were read stories with either a gendered protagonist embedded within a non‐gendered context, or a non‐gendered protagonist embedded within a gendered context. In Experiment 2, the same sample of children were read stories with the protagonist and the context displaying congruent or incongruent gender information. Each story featured an unknown activity linked with the stereotypical content. Both experiments indicate that the children rated the activity according to both the gender of the context and of the protagonist; however, the effect of the latter was stronger. In addition, children showed higher interest in the unknown activity if the protagonist’s gender matched their own sex. Thus, gender information in stories influences how children perceive unknown words. In epidemiologic studies, low 25(OH) vitamin D (25(OH)D) levels were associated with depression. This study analyzed the relationship between 25(OH)D serum levels in adolescent patients and AN and depressive symptoms over the course of treatment. (2) Methods: 25(OH)D levels and depressive symptoms were analyzed in 93 adolescent (in-)patients with AN from the Anorexia Nervosa Day patient versus Inpatient (ANDI) multicenter trial at clinic admission, discharge, and 1 year follow up. Mixed regression models were used to analyze the relationship between 25(OH)D levels and depressive symptoms assessed by the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II). (3) Results: Although mean 25(OH)D levels constantly remained in recommended ranges (≥50 nmol/L) during AN treatment, levels decreased from (in)patient admission to 1 year follow up. Levels of 25(OH)D were neither cross-sectionally, prospectively, nor longitudinally associated with the BDI-II score. (4) Conclusions: This study did not confirm that 25(OH)D levels are associated with depressive symptoms in patients with AN. However, increasing risks of vitamin D deficiency over the course of AN treatment indicate that clinicians should monitor 25(OH)D levels.
