The purpose of this study was the quantification of the expected gain of KG as well as the reliance between different patient specific values and the gain of KG. METHODS AND MATERIALS: The study population included 13 patients with a total of 31 dental implants, all of which were uncovered by the technique of the ARF. Four different measurements were performed in order to take the width of the KG: preoperative, postoperative, at the time of the incorporation of the prosthetic restauration as well as at the time of the oral incision. RESULTS: A statistically significant gain of KG postoperative (+3,94 mm, p < 0,0001) and at the time of the incorporation of the prosthetic restauration (+3,55 mm, p < 0,0001) compared to the width of KG preoperative could be found. During healing time, a shrinkage of the KG (- 0,39 mm, p < 0,0421) could be proven. No statistically significant reliance between groups of patient specific values and the gain of KG could be found. CONCLUSIONS: The apically relocated flap is a reliable surgical procedure to augment KG around dental implants.show moreshow less
